86 1.5 and 1.3 alternator question?
Hi, I am having an alternator problem. I have a 86 dx 1.5l carberated. and a 87 1.3l carberated. The alternator in the 1.5 is bad and the one in the 1.3 is good. I think. My question is: would I be able to swap them and use the 1.3's in the 1.5? would there be any differences or problems? thanks in advanced.

here's a cheap and easy way to find out...call your local honda dealer and talk to the parts counter...they can answer this question probably better than we can...usually honda uses the same part # across models and trim if they are the exact same

You can swap them over, but the 1.3's amp rating is lower than the 1.5's.

Toughguy327,
As long as you're not running enough accessories to drain the battery, you should be fine. Since you have the other alternator already, I'd say use it. Most modern alternators can handle things like running the lights, electric defogger, stereo and wipers simultaneously...unlike days of old. Now, if you have a 500 watt stereo in there, you might run into a problem.
In any case, I'll bet the thing puts out more than 50 amps and that should be plenty for normal use.

Like Bogatyr said, you'll be fine.
I think the 1.3L alt. is rated for something like 55amps, and the 1.5L is rated for like maybe 70. It's not a huge difference, just that Honda put the smaller alt. in the HF models because they figured it didn't need the extra drain on the engine.
