Default 4 door 88 civic. how crazy can u go with the swaps?

PLEASE READ BEFORE U REPLY WITH A STUPID REMARK!!

i have the chance to buy a mint 88 4 door civic ex for $1300 of my freind. Now, my question is. what is the biggest motor that i can put in this car? i just drove my freinds 94 integra and kinda fell in love with it. BUT, i would like to go alot faster then the teg. so if any 1 knows please tell me from what car i could get the engine from and what else would i need, also if possible give me a rough estimate of the cost. doing the work is no problem. i am totaly new to these hondas so please dont give me code names. i dont know **** about em.

thanx
Dan

Fastest for the least would probably be a 1.8L non-vtec engine from an Integra RS GS or LS, with a turbo.

Otherwise an Integra GSR or Integra Type R engines are going to be the fastest swap-in without any other work engines.

i was kinda on plannin on getting a motor out of a si civic or a gsr with vtec, well il put it to it like this. i would like to get a DOHC vtec motor and do some head work,cams,injectors,header,2.5 in exhuast.cam gears.throttle body porting, intake manifold. most likely i would do all the triks i could do. i just want to find out if i can stuff it in there.

Yep, you can fit any B-series Honda engine in there you want without too much trouble besides the wiring changes and mount kit stuff you'd have to do for any other B-series engine.

its no different than a REX or hatch

i think the b20 or b18b would prolly be the best bang for the buck unless u can afford the GSR than go for it

The largest displacement you could stuff into an 88 chassis (without serious work) is the B20B or B20Z... the DOHC Honda CRV engines, however if the cash is availible the B18C Integra GS-R is (IMHO) the only way to go, with a nice Skunk2 intake manifold to get rid of the GS-R variable-length butterly plate whatever its called intake manifold. If money is an issue, the B18A/B from 90+ Integras should have more spunk in the civic body then the integra, based purely on weight... that is, if you can survive without VTEC.

BTW, why you selling your RX-7? Too many electrical issues? I know mine honestly has at least 15. It's amazing it still runs.

About $800-$900 for only longblock, you would also need virtually an entire B18A (90-93 with the cable transaxle) Integra swap and mounts, except swapping the B20 longblock in place of the B18A.
