I'm not 100% about the hf but When I did my 88 dx I had to get the dash wiring harness from the 90 to get it to work properely. It was kind of annoying but it did work. THere might be an easier way but I don't know of it. The 90-91 cluster has a spot for an extra plug that the 88-89s don't have. I assume its the same for rexs and hatches. It might be easier to find a 88-89 one unless you feel like taking out your dash. The big problem with the wiring is the fuel and temp guages won't work properly without the right harness and neither will the tach If I remember correctly so get to the yard and find a harness its on the underside of the dash or you can just pull a cluster from a 88-89 hatch wagon or rex. Maybe someone has a 88-89 and they need a 90-91.

if you get a 90-91 dash it will have all you need to use the 90-91 cluster. The wires will all plug in and it will work fine. The difference in fit between the 88-99 and 90-91 is the metal bracket that you screw the cluster on too and thats about it. But if you have access to the 90-91 dash I would just take off the harness its only a few scress and tabs holding it on and you'll still have your original dash.

That post kinda confuses me ... I have acess to a dash that allready been taken out of a car. Its just all plastic and stuff. Now wires or anything.. So if i put it in my car the wires will still be my 88hf, so then i wanna plug the 90-91 cluster into the 88hf wiring, is that going to work ok?

88-89 clusters plug right into 88-89 clusters

90-91 clusters plug right into 90-91 clusters

You can do a 88-89 cluster to a 90-91 but i've never done it befroe....probaly takes a **** load of wiring and ****...not to metion that the clusters are very different....

ITs one harness screwed into the back of the dash. If you find a 90-91 dash that has it just unscrew the warness and remove the plastic fasteners. They are almost exacatly the same but 90-91 has a wire that plugs into the rear middle section of the 90-91 cluster. The 88-89 does not have 3 plugs on the back Just two.

The 90 91 dash you have is useless to you for what you are trying to.

Well first off i took the dash out because there was a mouse living in there somewhere and i am trying to flush him out. But anyway i took out the dash and i see that the harness just unplugs and it comes out with the dash. Now if i get the 90-91 dash and the cluster will that plug right back into where i unplugged the harness i have from what i would call a power grid or something or am i just stuck with what i have? I really need to know because i don't wanna have this dash out too long. Thanks for the help guys i really appreciate it..

you will only be able to use a 88-89 cluster with 88-89 dash wiring
you will only be able to use a 90-91 cluster with 90-91 dash wiring. The wiring will transfer easily and will plug in to your exisiting fuse box and you will be good to go.
