Default Springs on my 1991 HB

I'm installing springs today. I got the assembly apart in
front of me and I'm about to put the new springs on.

Which way is up? should the tight wind part of the
coil be on top?

Please help, I don't want to have to do this again...

tight part on top seems right. but i think springs are slightly tapered...they really only fit right one way.

Yes, the tighter wound coils go at the top, but your new springs should be tapered too. Just make sure they fit in the assembly tight so they don't rattle around and god forbid fall out.
