What year is the best CRX or Civic?
I'm not trying to start any arguments, but which year Civic's and CRX's are the most dependable and easiest for a shade tree mechanic to work on? What should you look out for when buying a used one?
Thank you

Well if you want the easy way and the most dependable and the most economical? It would have to be a 88-91 CRX HF. That motor is so detuned and so geared for everlasting mileage its hands down the #1.
With that 5th gear able to glide @ 100mph @ 3000 rpms and sipping gas @ near 50 mpg. That is a cheap ride. The wear and tear of that type of gearing is getting you a car that has almost half the normal wear as a Si model. NO POWER, but what im saying is that its 200k miles is like 125k of wear on a Si version of a CRX. So light like under 1949lbs I think. No power steering and some had air though. Its so humble of a car its so fun to drive and so cheap to operate. Anyone got a better one?:dunno:

I love my airplane geared go-kart!!!
i agree with what he said --^ . I drive an almost fully stock 89 hf. Mine has air and blows icebergs. Betsie indeed has no power, i have about 62 hp at the engine and she bogs down once i turn on the a/c. I would say if you could find a 91 hf, the engine hp is around 90hp.

That being said, after I was done reading his post, I wanted one :chuckles:
Old yes, but I drive a '92 h:
This won't help much but if not all CRX models have that jacked-up steering wheel that connects only at the bottom, then I'd say go for that 'cause I find it actually makes it hard to drive the car.
IMO the best Civic (USDM) as far as being not-slow and relatively cheap would be a Del Sol VTEC or 6th Gen Si.
All civics are dependable if kept up properly which can be a little expensive once they pass 10yrs. As far as the ease of working on them there isn't really a huge difference in most cases - don't know about the newer ones though.
