making my own wiring harness

making my own wiring harness
There's a bit of sticker price shock when it comes to buying a wiring harness
Does any know where I can get the connectors and maybe a crimping tool so I can make my own wiring harness for a 89 civic DX automatic hatch?
Or failing that - just somewhere I can buy a reasonably priced one - given that a wiring harness is just a couple of connectors and a whole lot of wire.
Regards

The thought did cross my mind and I'll be heading out to one next weekend h: . What I wanted to do was to create a test harness for right now (my ride - she isn't doing well ). And eventually something I can hook up a different energy management system to - and maybe even to some sort of data logger ... eventually.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Not sure what's wrong - no ECU codes are coming up but her idle is pretty high when I first start her up and then after a while goes back to normal. Sometimes while waiting for lights to change, the idle goes up enough to notice, then comes down again back to normal - like the ECU is confused about where the idle is
One possibly related thing is that I don't get that nice swoosh when I remove the gas cap anymore and am thinking my fuel system might be exposed to air - somewhere.
Befuddled

Just been searching for these connectors on-line and it hasn't been easy.
The following link is someone who did exactly that and visited a junkyard to get the connectors off an old ECU:
http://www.autosoftsys.com/supra/ecuext/
This link is more informative and lists the connectors by name:
http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=79837&page=1
Looks like they are AMP Multilock Hybrid 040/070 connectors and come in multiple configurations. A visit to ebay with a search string of "AMP multilock connector" comes up with 4 hits but I'm not sure if these are the same ones but are relatively cheap at $3.21 for the most expensive one.
I figure these connectors should be pretty cheap and abundant and prefer to get them new if I can.

leave your harness alone skippy. check your idle air control valve, coolant temp sensor, and also look for any vaccum leaks. i would bet against it being something in your computer or wiring harness

if you have an ohms meter, you can check to see if it is within factory spec. the specs are in helms.haynes manuals that u can pick up at a local parts store
