Default oil pan drain bolt

in changin my oil yesterday i found some tape on my drain bolt... when i went to put the bolt back in i realized that the pan threads were stripped and the bolt would not tighten all the way.. so i realized that whoever did the last oil change put that tape there to seal it and keep it tight.... what is my best way to make a fix on this???

Any time I run into a mest up drain bolt I would rather get a new oil pan and not risk it coming out and killing my engine.

Default Drain Bolt

Well you could retap the bolt hole and screw around with it... but easiest method is to put a new pan on... If ur strapped for cash you can use an oil safe sealant, seal the old bolt in place and replace it in like a week but I would recomend going to honda or a scrap yard and picking up a new one. (oil pan that is)

I would definitely get a new pan. It's not worth risking the engine. I work at a dealer and I see cars that people have taken to independent shops and they strip the drain plug on a daily basis, the only real permanent fix is a new pan. My local NAPA shows it for $80

They make oversized self threading drain plugs that work fine. If you really want a good fix, get a tap and make bigger threads.
