I'd run the vin off the firewall, that'd be your safest bet.

actually the dx and the hf share the same motors, the dx has a d15b2 motor with the pgm fi engine with a stock 90 horses, the hf has the same style motor but the block code is d15b1 which is the 70 horse model, the si has a NON glass sunroof with the i believe 110 horse d16a6 motor in it, the red crx does not look like an si from the sunroof because it is glass but it does have the si front lip, and the blue one looks like a dx.

EDIT: also the hf has the catalytic converter attached to the exhaust manifold

the hf is the d15b6...it is mpfi and the 88-89 model years had 62@4500 bhp@rpm and 83@3000 ft/lbs@rpm with a 9.1:1 cr...the 90-91 models had 70@4500 bhp@rpm and 83@3000 ft/lbs@rpm with the same cr...most noteably is that the hf's block is slightly different than the dx crx

the d15b2 in the dx civic/crx had 92@6000 bhp@rpm and 89@4500 ft/lbs@rpm with a 9.2:1 cr and dpfi
