Today I pulled the vtec noid off the engine and cleaned it out with brake cleaner and put it in the vat at work for awhile to clean it out. I put it back on and it stills makes the exhaust note change but no umph at all. We put it on my friends b16 powered hatch and the noid didn't work on his either. So I was thinking maybe just the noids busted but I put his working vtec on my motor and ran it and it didn't do anything different. I have no idea what the hell the deal is, no CELs,good oil level, wiring is correct, warm engine. I'm starting to think I shouldve just paid the extra money and bought this motor from a company. Well tell me what you think. Thank you all

Only thing I can suggest is, hook a test light upto it... If it lights up, the ECU is sending the "all good" signal and VTEC is engaging... But if theres no noticable power, the solenoid may be bad... Then again, a bad solenoid wouldnt change the exhaust note... Honestly tho, it sounds too me like your not used to the VTEC crossover and just dont notice it yet... Its not like hitting mad NAWWWZZ power band y0! On a perfectly tuned engine, you really shouldnt feel much of anything at all (meaning the cross over should be nice and smooth), except your RPMS will start to climb really fast...

Which ecu are you using? Upgrade to OBD-1 if you have some spare time and money. Maybe invest in an Ostrich and a Crome Pro license. If it makes the sound than the solinoid has successfully transfered into the High Cam profile.
I'd check your timing to see if its retarded a bit. Go a little further and get oil and fuel pressure gauges and see what you may or may not be pushing out.

Thanks for the help. I'm running a pr3 ecu on this one. LOL I know it's not some fake ass fast and the furious like boost, this is my 3rd honda with vtec and its not hard to notice the vtec engaging even on a d16. There is no powerband what so ever on this pile engine. I'm going to hook a test light up to it this afternoon and hopefully figure something out. Thanks for the help once again.

I'm no master tech.. but have u checked ignition curve and fuel map at the crossover point? Maybe there is a pressure drop due to a bad ECU. Borrow someone's ECU to check this theory.~~~when in doubt, use someone else's stuff!!~~~

I took the noid apart and cleaned it real good. The piston still works good in it and nothing seems to be broken or out of place. I'm still waiting to borrow someones ecu soon to check if thats the problem.
