ZC engine swap questions
I will be getting a ZC engine soon for my 88 CRX Si.
What should I do while i'm swapping out the engine.
If i plan on getting a clutch I just get one for the 88 Si still correct?
What else should I get while i'm doing it?
What do I NEED to do while doing it?
I know that this is a easy swap that doesn't require motor mounts. But i want to make sure i have everything I need when we do it.
Thanks.

No motor mounts. Just use your stock one. If you're using your 88 Si Tranny, you can get a clutch for 88 Si.
You'll need to connect two wires to your exhaust cam sensor (i think that's what it's called). If you don't have air tools, get some PB Blaster from Walmart, it'll help to loosen those rusty bolts.
I'd recommend getting new gaskets/belts/water pump/ thermostat/etc....anything that you can get to easily and change while the engine is still out of the car.
Here are some part #'s that you can look for.

Don't forget fluids...oil for engine/tranny and coolant.

www.lightningmotorsports.com That's where I do all my new purchasing. That place rocks. They price match too. The guy I work with there is Tom, he is awesome. Or you can check out www.groupbuycenter.com If you have the extra money, I'd recommend a lightened flywheel, or have your stock lightened to about 12.5 lbs. You'll definitely want it resurfaced before putting it together.
My buddy has a stage III in his teg and it's awesome. It's not as stiff (pedal) as you'd think it to be. Stage II should be fine though. They're all the same price, so get what you think you'll need. If you are planning on boost, definately get a II.

that site doesn't list a Clutchmasters Stage 2 for an 88 Civic.
Would it be the same for a 90 Civic.

They don't list FLYWHEELS for that year either.

They only have listings for stage I and stage III....I'd call clutchmasters and ask. I"m pretty sure that you can use a 90 clutch, but call them.
You can have your flywheel lightened safely to 12.5 lbs.....anything less then that would be unsafe. It's prone to breaking. So I've heard.

I don't know the codes....I get htem all screwed up, but you can use the one for your 88 si. It might have a little eratic idle, but it'll work.
If you can get your hands on a 90-91 si for cheap, get that one. It's mapped better for fuel. ANd it should take care of the eratic idle. I'm running w/my 89 Si ecu and living w/the idle prob. Zdyne coming this spring!!!!

No, you cannot use a '89-91 clutch with the '88 transmission. The '88 is the odd ball and has a different spline count on the input shaft (20 splines as opposed to 21 splines I believe). If you have a '89 transmission you can use the '90-91 clutch provided you buy the '90-91 flywheel because it is slightly larger.
Chris
PS. Nick, you have the Teg ECU and the PM6 is the '88-91 Si ECU and the PM7 is the ZC ECU.

I was told to do this...
Is there an alternative method to this? I really can't have my car down for 3 days plus.
Thanks.
FILL THE MOTOR MOUNTS. I wish I hade do this before I put my motor in. You can go to your local glass company and get 2 tubes of there Polyurethane to fill your mounts for like $20. Fill up the mounts and let them sit for 3 days ( minimum drying time ), then put the motor in.
