Default How many miles for break in?

Well, I am rebuilding my engine, and I need to know a lil more on how and how many miles to break in the motor. I have been told by a few Honda Techs that I should jsut get like 20 miles on it or 50 and take it up to like 8000 then, I was told that I need to break it in 1000 miles, then change oil and breka it in till 5000. What do I do. All opinions welcome. Anything People?

There are different ways to break in a motor. Search around on yahoo and see what your options are. Some say run it hard right from the start, some say start slow keep running it harder, and some say baby it for 500 miles or whatever and then have your fun with it.

I'm no engine pro, but I would think that you should give the engine's new internal parts time to "seat" and wear properly. Babying the engine for at least 500 miles or so would probably be enough to give the engine a proper "break in," but like schmoo said, there are alot of different opinions out there, so do some searching before you decide on what to do.
That second method you are talking about is the one i've heard of. You limit the engine revs at different rpms for different mileage pts. Like 3k rpms until 500, then 5k until 1000, then change the oil, then 6k until 1500, then 7k until 2000, then change the oil, then finally you're free to rev to redline. Not sure if that's exactly what I read, but close.
For me, I just took it easy for 500 miles on my b16 when I got it from hmotors, then changed the oil and felt the "break in" period was complete.

id say take it easy. youd think it would be better for the parts to find their place rather then forcing them in by beating on the motor.

Well, I guess I will jsut keep it on some easy revs. Go to like 5000 or 6000 and jsut chill there until I reach 500 miles. After that it is free time i guess.

No, I just do a lot of reading, in case I have to break in a motor. I would baby it for a few hundred miles and then drive it like I stole it.
