I'd say if you drove hard, and about 3k miles, especially on cheap oil, then yeah, that's prolly normal. My old d-series would blacken oil in about 2-3months with three thousand miles.

I think I would have to get a better motor oil, then just getting the .99 cent Napa motor oil. what would be the best motor oil I could get and what weight should I get. 10w-30w or 5w-40w

A good AND inexpensive oil (relatively speaking) is "Shell Rotella T".. you can pick it up by the gallon at your local Wal-Mart store or parts store. It's dino oil, not synthetic, but for dino. oil it's some of the best out there. BTW: I drive at least a good 50 miles every day going to & back from work and I need an oil change every 4k or so. Another tip: don't use fram filters.. they're junk anymore.

Oil weight is decided on ambient temperature and driving conditions. If you drive your shit hard, and you live in the sahara desert, go upwards in weight, so 10w-30. Sounds like you're in hawaii? I would use 10w-30 down there, it's not that cold, unless it's winter.
I personally like castrol oils. It provides great lubrication, and a master mechanic of nissans told me he's been using it in his cars for more than 20yrs. If it's good enough for a nissan, then you bet it's good for a honda. The only thing is the price: I buy Castrol Syntec, it's like $5 per qt. here in vegas! Still love the stuff though. If your motor is old, however, I would use regular castrol motor oil.
