88-91 CRX Si has a D16A6 engine - 1.6L, SOHC non-VTEC 16 valves, Multi Point Fuel Injection, 108hp @ 6000rpm, 100 ft-lbs torque @5000rpm

i am putting the b16a 1st generation 158hp vtec in my crx. like you said you have the stock d16a6, the big difference, the b16a is dohc, and a lot of difference in power. the complete swap from www.speedtechracing.com comes to $1400, for motor and tranny. it's also a cable transmission, and redlines at 8200rpm. you can also get the zc for $900, its only 137hp. do the b16a1 and your head will have whiplash from all those horses.

Whiplash? Yeah right, I have a B16a and it's slow as shit, and it runs right. Maybe when you're putting 30 psi into it you'll get whiplash. :chuckles:

learn to speedshift on a cable tranny. 30psi, there's no way it can get that high. is that the 1st generation with 158hp stock? add an intake, headers, bigger cams with adjustable cam gears, msd ignition, and a jr supercharger, that's close to 300 hp right there. 300hp+1600lbs car= fast

I wouldnt call the B16 "slow as shit", buts far from the fastest u can put in a rex... Lets face it, EVERYONE whos installed this engine, was atleast dissapointed in the lack of torque... And wanted to squeeze a little more out of it... Not to say its a bad engine by any means... Id take one any day... They just lack torque... And torque is the force that actually gets the car in motion, not so much the HP... And too most ppl who swap, getting the car upto speed is what its all about... Truth be told, the best bang for the buck swap (B series) would be a B18A/B... Plenty of torque on tap, and decent HP... Plus they respond very well to boost, or you could swap on a VTEC head and go LS/VTEC...

Any retard can speedshift, and I can do it just fine, there's really no point in beating the shit out of the trans though when you loose virtually nothing by quickly lifting off the gas when you shift. I wind all the way to just before the rev limiter, shift fast, and put my foot right back down. If I didn't know how to drive I wouldn't be complaining. It gets around top end, it doesn't move worth a shit low end. I was exaggerating with slow as shit but it's not fast. I'm hoping getting an exhaust on it will get me a good 10hp, it's exhaling through the pea shooter stock pipe now. Yeah, it's the first gen B16a, I'm running a 92 GS-R trans with the shorter 4.40. I didn't buy the car or the motor to have a speed monster, the car is 10 times more fun in corners, the motor is enough power for it not be be slow, and get it to pull out of corners good. Once your 0-60 gets down below 5 you have a pretty fast car. Last time I timed mine to 60 it was a little under 6.4 with a halfass launch and no speedshift, I'm pretty sure I could do a 6.2 if I tried a couple more times.

I still dont think 300 hp would give you whiplash, try 500 if you could get traction. :fawk: They do not weigh 1600 lbs, it's a little over 2000 with an 88Si like mine and over 2200 on the 90-91's with the B16a.
