vtec engagement
if someone has theirs set to activate at 3500 rpm how long does this last. I guess what I'm asking is how long is vtec actually engaged, is it working anytime he's over 3500 rpm or am I thinking about this wrong. I told him it should engage at 5000 to run better since our engines make power in the higher revs.

VTEC is basically the camshaft switching over to different lobes to give it more power. So from 800(Idle)-4499/4999 it is not in VTEC, and from 4500-5000(I believe those are the actual engagement RPMS, depends on engine) to Redline they are in VTEC.
So...
800-4499/4999 = Not in VTEC
4500/5000-Redline = VTEC

believe it or not 850 with 200000 miles on the body and 35000 on a new engine. It was just sitting in a guys backyard for almost 3 years and I ask him to sell and he said cool. He stopped driving it because the dealer told him it needed major repair and he didn't feel like spending the money. I bled the brakes and gassed it up and its been good but now these stupid 4 piston calipers won't work like their seized up or something and I am not knoweledgeable in mazdas at all.

What about if your using a different activator without the z6 computer and with a a6 dist. He has some sort of little box with a yellow thing plugged into it and he said he has different ones with different numbers on them. I'm just asking becase his car is barely faster then my stock si even when I drive his and he drives mine.

Well sometimes people use MSD RPM Activated switches to enguage VTEC. I'm not sure, but you maybe able to change when it comes on with one of those. Or perhaps a VTEC controller or some sort.
