the VTec ZC is similar to the D16Z6, it produces around 130 hp also. the DOHC ZC is labeled at 130, ive heard numbers like 137 and 127, dont really know what to believe, just depends on who you talk to?

OK I will try and find the a link to the info that I got. What I have states that the Blacktop Jap 16i-VTi 1.6L 1590cc 4 cyl - 16 valve DOHC 130 hp @ 6800 [7800] , the Vtech is rated at as follows: Jap SiR 1.6L VTEC 1595cc 4 cyl - 16 valve DOHC 160 hp @ 7600 [8200].
Just figure that the blacktop ZC non vtech is going to be around the 130 hp mark. The vtech ZC should have more power being that it is afterall a VTECH engine.

The J spec CR-X and Civic SiR's came with a B series engine (B16A, the first generation of B16A), and yes the ratings you posted are correct (160HP)... However, we are disussing ZC engines, a ZC engine is a not a B series engine, and vice versa... Actually for the most part a ZC is considered a D series since they have so many parts that are interchangable (intake manifold, exhaust manifold, ect), this however, is not so on the B series... They are 2 totally different platforms...

There is no ZC engine that is both DOHC and VTEC, its either DOHC without, SOHC without, or SOHC with... And none of which are rated more than 140bhp...

anyone have some good advice on which tranny to use, i can get the ZC tranny for 40 bucks, and i am already replacing axles and clutch, so that leaves the intermediate shaft correct? how much will this cost me and where can i find that if i do decide to go the ZC tranny route, or the hybrid SI/ZC tranny is what i am actually leaning to, but using the ZC tranny and putting SI fifth gear in

I'm going to use the Si tranny. I think it will give you enough pep with the ZC, plus you can pick them up really cheap.

The grey plug is a rare DOHC Zc that is a plug n play for the 5th gen(92-95) civic.I had one in my 93 hatch and i was very happy with the power output for the money and it drops right in!The yellow plug is OBD0 and is for 88-91 Civic/Crx's.
I am gonna replace the SOHC Zc that is in my Crx now with a DOHC version later on.
Def go with the DOHC Zc for your Crx.For the money and with the weight of your car,it should be a great improvement. IF you still want more power, bypass the overhyped b16 and go with a b18 a/b,boost later or get a C1.

in all likelyhood the car will recieve a b18c1 in a couple of years, however, at the time i do not have the money for that swap, thanks though for the info on the wires, i wouldnt have wanted to end up with the wrong engine, and about the tranny, i think i am going to stick with the SI tranny, any suggestions though on which tranny i should use, still somewhat undecided
