Default typeR or not typeR

Was up I need some help. I just bought a b16 motor and it soupposedly has a type R head on it. How do I find out if there is any truth in this? A friend of mine told me there is no codes and the only way to find out it to take the cams out and measure them. Is this right? If so what are the measurments? Thanks

A real Type R head will have a swipe of green paint around the distributor mount area as well as a Type R intake manifold. If all else fails, check the date stamp on the head casting and measure the cams (remember, Type R heads are PR3 type castings.)

Is the valve cover red? I know there is more to it than just a red valve cover, but that would be the most obvious feature. On the other hand it is possible to have a red valve cover with any head.

What makes the type r head better than the other heads?

Could I take a regular GSR Head (B18) and put Type R internals in it and have relatively the same affect?

It has factory headwork done, you could probably accomplish the same sort of mild headwork yourself though.

Aren't the cams more aggressive and it is polished and ported a lil bit.... as far as the stamps I heard all b16, gsr, typer head have the same pr-3 casting. Basically the only sure way to tell is check your cams... does anyone know what the measurements are soupposed to be?

The B18C1 series GS-R/SiR-G uses a P72 head with a smaller combustion chamber and slightly different radiuses on the intake and exhaust ports, as well as an intake manifold bolt pattern for the inverted dual stage intake manifold.
