Well had to brake down and buy a manual, and found out I have a box from an auto!! The manual tranny needs a dashpot to control the decrease in rpms while shifting. So I now need to pick up another new control box!!

Dashpots keep the throttle from snapping shut, that's a driveablility issue. Without it, the engine may run richer for a fraction of a second, but nothing that will hurt you performance- or emissions-wise.
