Do check for error codes on your ECU too...if it shows up 44, you have a faulty Oxygen Sensor. Also, if it's your original sensor, it would be best to change it too. I know it made a hell of a difference (better) when i changed my 14 years old one.

2 ED9man: it smoothened out the ride...it used to be real rough while changing gears and accelerating...its a lot smoother now.
2 psychedup: fuel filter is usually mounted on the firewall, on the left side (when you look at the engine from outside), it looks like some sort of canister, with 1 fuel line comming into it and one going out of it (makes sense, eh? it is a FILTER, you know...). Don't mess it with the charcoal canister, as it has a diaphragm on it too, and it says PCV on it, and one additional vacuum line, so look for the canister-looking thing with only 2 cables connected to it.

if the IACV is like on my 87 si, the diaphram just needed to be tightened. use either a chisel or 2 flat head screwdrivers and tighten the inch wide stopper lookin diaphram snug and the surging should problem disappear, at least mine did.
