pros & cons to v-tec swap
I don't know much about cars. I've got a 91 civic hatch dx 1.5 (stock) non-vtec engine in it now. My engine needs replaced cause its burning oil and smoking due to the rings probably. I need to do this cheaply as possible and in the best way to make the car last long and be very reliable. I found a guy to give me a deal. His suggestion is to do a swap for a 93 v-tec engine he has (with aprox 70,000 miles) that came from a car he swapped for another customer.
I know this will be a lot of work and he's giving me a very good deal for it. I'll pay about $1,000 for the whole deal.
Does anyone who may have had this done to their car, or know someone who has, know what the pros and cons are to doing a modification like going to a newer v-tec engine (and what that entails) would be? I don't care about speed or power as much as reliablility and making sure that it won't make regular repairs/maintenance cost more in the future (than it does stock) because of the modification. Please help if you know, thanks.

I think its the D16Z6 from either the SI or the EX.
Im doing the same swap myself. I paid 300 for my tranny 450 for my engine and im still looking for a auto ex ECU from 92-95. I also need the Wiring harness and 1 axle for the left side cus i tore a boot.
