Idle problem...
Have a 87 Civic Sport hatch 1.5i, for some reason the idle jumped and is on 2k, this stays like this for some time, if I do drive around a lot it does gradually drop to normal????
Driving me nuts, any not too technical replies please...

Does it bounce? Take a picture of your throttle body area, and I can show you the most common cause and fix of this problem. It's inside the primative version of an IACV on this car.

Not cleaning, fixing. You know the cover plate on top of the little bugger, held down by two phillips screws? Take that off. You'll find a little screw-in thingie with a notch on each side. Screw that in tight, it tends to loosen up after 17+ years. That will usually fix the problem.
If I can find a picture, I'll show you. It's been a while since I sold my '87 Si.

This little guy.
Once you remove the two screws, you will see a round part with two nothces like in Fig. 1. Find a way to get something in those (I used part of a broken hacksaw blade) and tighten it as much as possible. Try to use a new rubber O-ring under the cover.
If that doesn't work, try another one. It should only be about $10 from a junkyard.
This, assuming you've never had the throttle body or upper half of the intake manifold off. If you have, it may be a vacuum leak.
