this piece was done @ www.hondaswap.com
why would the gas prices affect you dropping in a b16? i get the same if not better gas milage in my 91 hb si than my old 88 dx hatch with a stock motor. just something to think about.

yeah but why would a dx head be better then an si....would putting an si head be better???

They overlook one major thing is that article...the HF pistons only have Eight valves, meaning that the pistons only have two reliefs per piston. I had the chance to do this sort of swap and it won't work, you need to have four relifs per piston to throw a 16 valve head on the block. :af:

I've heard the same thing, valves will hit pistons since there are no reliefs.

Are you sure, as in have you had one open? I had an 8v D15B8 open and to my suprise it had 16 valve reliefs. :dunno:

yes, on the 89 USDM HF that I had the head off of, there were only 8 total valve reliefs.

on a side note: I have heard (only speculation) the the piston on the HF motor does not interfere with the valves if using a 16 valve head. But I'm not one to play with such fire. I'd rather have the reliefs there just in case ya know?

That's neat, Honda cheaped out on the 5G's and opted to make only 16V pistons to save money. It's nice to know they did make devoted 8V pistons for the HF.

I still don't believe an HF/16v hybrid will come anywhere close to a 14 second 1/4 though.
