SOHC Vtec question

SOHC Vtec question
I got a guy who just ordered a 92-92 1.5 SOHC Vtec engine for his 88-91 Si Hatchback. I am going to be doing his swap in about a week. I told him to hook the vtec up to an activation switch but he don't want to. He said one of his friends told him the b16a1 computer will work with this swap. I wan't too sure about it cuz I never seen it before so I wanted to find out what you guys think before I order him one. Also is there any other way to hook the vtec up besides converting to OBD2, or just a regular flip switch??? Thanks

um a b16 ecu will NOT work... the plugs are different unless he wants to spend more time reconnecting the wires. also he can get a MSD rpm activation, its pill related or he can get a shift light and wire it to the VTEC signal wire.. or the best way besides switching to the P28 ecu is get a S-AFC or V-AFC + you can tune with that.

Don't need to convert to obd2, need to convert to obd1...Which should be simple if you get a harness such as http://www.boomslang.us/obd0.htm
Should be simple with that and a p28 ecu.
I recomend the p28 cuz you wont really have to worry about tuning it. A VAFC (which has to piggy back off a vtec ecu anyway) can be tricky if you don't know what your doing and you'll need dyno time to do it, and if you just do RPM activation, then you wont have any fuel maps for the vtec and it'l run like crap.
One other option is to get the 1-wire conversion from zdyne. It says it's for a b16 but also says it can work for a mini-me swap, which is similar to what your doing of course, you'll have problems with the distributor then though.
Go with the harness, $125, then a p28 $75-100, and maybe s spool of some wire for another $5. Should be all set after that if I'm not missing anything.

With using the conversion harness, you have a few extra wires you have to hook up. Basicaly 1 or 2 to the vtec solenoid, and 1 or 2 to the distributor, and lastly a couple extra to the o2 sensor (which needs to be a 4 wire)

Thanks a lot tiggs.. I will probably want to go with the wire conversion. 1 question..I can still use the 92-95 dizzy right? I don't need to switch to the si one then right? And when I get the conversion clips does it tell me which wires I need to run?? (ex: I hook a wire up from the vtec sensor and run it to the ecu..where on the ecu???) thanks alot anything you need let me know

I called the guy up and told him about the wire conversion and he insisted on the b16a computer. I told him it would work. He insisted that his friend told him and then he called his friend up. His friend said he seen it on the Zdyne website. So I went on the Zdyne website and there it was. The say the b16a ecu will work for the sohc vtec and mini me swap?? Will it work or are they just bullshittin to make sales??? Does anyone know anything about this?? Thanks
