Default zc vs. sohc vtec

which would be faster in a 89 crx si, a zc or sohc vtec (d16z6)? Just wondering planing on doing a swap soon and wanted to know which would be faster. I want vtec but the zc will be easier. I have seen zc's at the track but none with sohc vtecs.

Probably wouldn't be much different, they have almost the same HP and probably the same Torque. But SOHC VTEC is what I would go for because it's more reliable.

ZC engines sit around and a lot of their parts get damaged and they are all like 11 years old at least. Plus they are a bastard engine and knowing which parts fit on it can be difficult. A SOHC VTEC engine could come out of a 2000 Civic and only be 2 years old. Plus as these engines come in USDM cars you could get a cheap SOHC VTEC Engine if someone with a 92-95 Si/EX or 96-00 EX were getting a B-series swap.

yep, i say z6 over zc cause another thing that has to be taken into consideration is emissions. the sohc vtec puts out way cleaner emissions, not to mention better gas mileage too.

ZC would be ok if you rebuilt it but the cost of materials such as gaskets etc... would cost more then $1000, so that would instantly make ZC a waste of money as you could get a B16A for the price of a ZC+$1000 easy.

I have driven both and its just my opinion but I enjoyed the zc better then the z6 engine. It felt like it pulled stronger from the line and yes I drove them back to back.In terms of reliability it seems you have no idea what your really getting and should get your engine from a reliable source. I have heard of some being really ****ty and then there are some that run strong even with boost on stock internals.
As for parts for the zc here is a list. Try this site for more info.
