Default n00b need suggestion

Well i'm pretty much a n00b when it comes to audio so please be kind. Anyhow, i'm lookin to get a new headunit since my stock cd player is starting to die on me, cds skip and some dont even play at all anymore. So what do you guys suggest? I'm lookin to spend around $200-300ish. Also lookin for possible future upgrades too, like speakers, amp, etc. TIA

panasonic>pioneer (pretty much just in the low end) go to bestbuy or circuit city and compare for yourself

I think the Pioneers look alot nicer than the Panasonic headunits.
Just an opinion.

The Alpine with model #'s 79XX do not have an onboard amp. The ones with 78XX have an onboard amp.

You definitely cannot go wrong with an Alpine.
