Default mp3 cds....are they really worth it?

Is getting a new head unit that supports mp3 cds something good to consider? Right now I use an alpine 3 disc in dash changer, so putting all of those songs onto one cd could be worth it. What are the advatages/disadvantages to mp3 cds?

average audio CD 12-20 tracks, my last mp3 cd I burned had 243 tracks and still had room left, and that was using nothing but 192KBps encoding, I could drop the encoding down and fit even more.

if i ever upgrade my HU, it would be to a HU that supports mp3 formats. i go through and change a CD a couple times a week. saves me the hassle of carrying a CD binder.

VERY much worth it. My old LS had the Kenwood Z828 in it, but I traded it in towards the current car. Stock audio sucks my ass.

I keep wishing I had my MP3s back 10 hrs of audio per disc wasn't a bad thing at all.

If you have(or download) a lot of mp3s, then hell yes it's worth it. But if you're not into that stuff, then no.

My next HU will probably have mp3 support. DamnAccord makes a good point, if your new to mp3's... it may seem like a ton of work. But like anything else, play around with it, get good at it... and it's no longer a ton of work... it's fun.

Drawbacks of mp3's... not as good a quality as a regular cd. Most people can't tell much if any difference. If your going for pure quality, stay away from mp3's. If you can't tell or don't care (like most people), mp3s' are awesome.

That's not necssarily true. If you encode your MP3s at a high enough bitrate, you'll be fine.

I just installed an MP3 deck and changer. 70 hours of stuff (6 in the changer and one in the hole) without having to change a disc is well worth the effort of making the discs.

this HU installed in my accord.

and it was the BEST investment i've ever made. the mp3 playback is great, but the when you convert your mp3's to .wma files ... you get 4 times as much music on 1 cd. i got 22 hours, about 40 - 45 albums on an 80min cd-r. with my mp3/wma headunit, i will never need a cd changer.

Whats are some good mp3 head units out there? Im looking for a good one under $300 (looking on ikesound.com website, they have great deals on everything). My main concern would probably be search time. Ive read about how it takes up to 6 sec. to start playing a song off an mp3 cd for some units. Id like to have one that can search and play as fast as possible. Any recommendations?
