holy crap. horrible web design, but the content is very good. only if the tests showed them firing the sub upward instead of towards the cab of the car. i think the best config for a box IS front firing... but only if the trunk is complete sealed off from the cab. I'm talking fully sealed, as in every hole including the 6x9 holes, the vents, every small little screw hole. If you plan to do this, i suggest spending a little bit of money on getting your trunk rhino lined. Sorry, got off track a little bit. The benefit of a fully sealed front firing system is that you get rid of the shaking trunk lid. The downfall of it is that most people like to mount their amps in the trunk... and without any sort of airflow, the amps are way more likely to overheat.

Yesturday I read these replies and web links and since I was already messin in the trunk I thought I'd give the box a turn around and see the results. In this 93 CIVIC 4 door it definetly sounded stronger/better facing towards the rear.

Im not much on the new sound systems cause Im and "old dog" but no matter what any technical data ever says your own ears know best.....Jack

it shouldnt matter where you face it. Bass is non-directional as opposed to mid and high end sounds.

But having box inside of a trunk or cabin basically gives it a second enclosure. ANd there will be a difference in sound if the waves are bounced off of a wall 2 ft away and a wall 5 inches away.

wow. that seems just like something i said. But he wasnt asking about facing the sub towards the cab, he wants to know about it facing up.
