Questions about Dynamat
#11
hmmm... im about to pay someone 200$ parts/labor to do my two doors. He claims you need a heat gun and its hard to do....
is it really this easy? am i being ripped off?
he also wants 100 to do the trunk lid, which i think I met let him do its, a little bit more complicated.
what about if you have to open up the door to get to something?wrip it off?

Yes it is easy, but if you do not know how to remove the panel and you break somthing that 200 is going to turn into 400-500....
if your handy with taking your car apart then shoot for it. other wise id pay somebody who has the time, and ability.
as for getting ripped off question, do you know how much the dynamat is and how much labor is being assesed?
cause i charge 50/door to apply it so that right thier is 100 bucks
and the kit runs about 80 so sounds fair so far
the heat gun is personal preferance to some installers, but either way it takes tim to install and you the installer are running the risk of somthing breaking and needing to be replaced.
So I would say no, you are not getting ripped off

but as far as the actual application.. is it more trouble than its worth? how much would i save?

a small piece the size of a dollar bill placed on a metal trash can with a sub mounted to it STOPS the tingy sound.
you do not need to put it on like wall paper, it does not need to cover every square inch of the panel
If you can put a sticker on your car, or a wal you can install dynamat
here is a picture of one that i recently installed, it took 12 hours to apply, but the interior was already removed.
sorry about the big picts. i didnt have time to resize them, but you can see the dyno roller in the bottom right of the last pic.
Hope this helps.

agree its not hard to put it on but everyone has their tricks. i like to heat it up and slowly roll it with a wooden roller. i usually cut the mats before i put them on also . i've had installers cut the hell out of doors and what not. i just think it's unprofessional when a car come out of the shop and all the edges of the dynamts you see knife marks all over so i tell them to do it off the car and use some common sense.
i've never tried the bquiet but i've used the fatmat and i thought it was alright but i've heard that some of the lower quality sound deadeners tend to fall off in the summer like the seel and peel that some people tend to use.
