I have a 2000 Accord EX with OEM headlights. I'm looking to upgrade to Silver Stars (can't afford HID so that's off the table)...and I've heard about the 9005/9006 conversion.

I'm wondering if this will blind oncoming drivers? I've heard that with Integras it works because they have projector beam housings that focus the light better. Does my Accord have the proper kind of housing to focus the beam and not blind other drivers?

yea it'll blind drivers. all you have to do is point your headlights down

 

I hear people say you need to aim them down, but I don't see why they do. Putting a brighter bulb in the same housing doesn't change your beam pattern, just makes it brighter. Mine shine in the same place they used to, just a bit brighter is all. Never had a problem with people high-beaming me or anything. :dunno:

 

You might be right, cause they're in the same shielded low beam housing.
I guess it being a brighter bulb and all, it might blind oncoming drivers.

 

There is a decreased bulb life and AccordCutie had her one 9005 die on her not to long ago, and she didn't even have it in a year and it already went out. Luckily she has a friend that can hook her up with Silverstars.

Do you mean there is a decreased bulb life for the 9005/9006 conversion or a decreased bulb life for Silver Stars in general?

Anyone else experienced decreased bulb life/other problems with the above?

9005s are higher wattage in the save cavity. They are meant to be HIGH BEAMS, not low beams, they aren't made to be on all the time, so yes they will burn out faster.

 

Both. Since Silverstar are hotter then regular halogen, the life is lower then regular halogen, however the exact life is unknown.

There is also a decreased life if you are not running the correct wattage. In this case the 9005 bulb is running on 10 less watts then 9006.

 

i had em for like 5 months. one blew out, so i went back to normal. bleh, i could care less. the difference really isn't worth $50. when i get my hatch, i'm doing a HID retrofit... now thats the way to go. :irock:

 

any bulb that is rated higher than the stock bulbs will burn out. it doesn't matter if they're used for high or low beams. i don't think they are 'meant' to be high beams because they are of higher wattage. the bulb used for the high beam doesn't matter. the high beam reflector is what makes the light aim up and bright as hell.
