Please help - authorization code
Hello guys,
This is my first post, and I could really use some help. I just replaced the battery on my 98EX V6 and I see that I now need to enter in an authorization code to work the radio. I found the card, but it is blank. I called a local dealer and they are saying that they'll have to charge me 86 dollars just to get the radio working (!!!). I am in new york but I bought my car back in boston and the original dealer will not release the information over the phone. Is there any way to get it to work? Perhaps a program that generates the codes? Please help me, I have long commutes and it really sucks not having any sort of music.
Thanks in advance,
Hansol

if you are the original owner, the dealer gives you 2 cards with 2 white stickers about an inch by half an inch, each of which have your radios 6 digit code. you have the option of putting the sticker on the card and keeping it in a safe place or placing the sticker on a door jam or somewhere you can access it when you need it. if you lost the stickers, which are small, you are outta luck and have to pay. if you are not the original owner, the previous owner may have stuck the sticker on a door frame, in the glove box, ect.. look around for the sticker, you may just luck out and its right there.

If you know how to take off the radio, the code is free from the dealer. All you have to do is take the radio off and take it with you to the dealer and they will get you the code for free. The reason for the charge is for the labor of taking off the radio for you but if you take the radio off yourself then the code is free. Taking the radio off is pretty easy.

When I got my Civic used. I took out the stock and went to the dealer to ask for the code. He researched it for two days and he said that my radio didn't need a code. Oh well. I have my Kenwood!
I'm keeping the stock just in case.
