60K mile tune-up

60K mile tune-up
My car is about to hit 60K miles so I want to get a tuneup or whatever done on it, especially since I'm gonna be driving about 1300 miles from Florida to Michigan at the end of August when I go back to school. What needs to be done when a car hits 60K, and where should I go to get this stuff done? I'd rather not go to a Honda dealership, simply because they seem to charge a lot more than anyone else for basically the same work being done. What other places are good and how much should I expect to pay for this maintenance?

Read the instruction booklet. they should list all the things that will be done to it. You can try to take it to an independent shop (look for a good one) and save yourself some money and get to know a good mechanic. I'd say you're looking at around 450 (i dunno?) at the dealership if everything goes right and nothing's replaced.

Yeah, I'm due for it too, but I've decided to just not go and do (most of it) myself. I've already changed my brakes and I'm going to get some new spark plugs and rotate the tires. There isn't much next to that except for the "inspection" things.

On the subject of spark plugs...
Since I'm gonna be needing to change them, should I get any particular kind that will improve the performance of my car? or should I just stick with the similar to whats in the car right now (stock)? Also, how much would different ones cost as opposed to stock ones?

if you have the 4 cyl with few mods....get the plain old NGK's they last long enuf...same perf...and cheaper. Don't forget to get the valves adjusted and you prolly need a fuel filter which are both worth going to the dealer for....they are a pain....

for the 6th generation accord, it says under "severe driving condition" u need at 60 K to get water pump checked, and replace timing belt, but when i called they said, thats only if u live like in REALLY REALLY (zoolander LOL) hot or cold places... and drive abnormally alot also. so, the person where i bought my car (they got good customer and just overall service) said dont need to do it until 90K... i dunno bout that, i think it said 105K under normal conditions in my manual. she said its gonna cost me at the time 680 including labor, for the 5 different belts to be replaces, the water pump and that valve and fuel injector whatever... at 60K u only need to check all that crap u have to anyways, spark plugs, oil change, and some the oil filter , inspect the valves (only inspect it says), replace air cleaner element (what the hell is this? this must be important, cuz its only changed like every 15 K miles, unlikes oil change and oil filter replacement), replace spark plugs if u got a 4 cylinder, V6 gets replaced at 105 K.... , inspect and adjust drive belts, and replace air conditioning filter, etc etc... rest is the same as most maintenance like replace break fluid, check parking break... BREAK FLUId should be replaced at 45 K, and transmission fluid as well. anyway, here u go

I'd get the Denso Iridium spark plugs in IK16's. I hear those are pretty good even though they need to be replaced every 30k. Your car should come with NGK platinums if they're the 6th gen Accords.
