Default 99 AV6 Transmission HELP

I just got back from my mechanic who read the codes for why the transmission was slipping on my wifes 99 AV6. Basically it came down to 2 options. 1: flush transmission with some type of industrial tranny cleaner and then replace fluid. 2: Replace transmission and TC.

We have the Platinum Service Plan and the car is just shy of 60K. I've heard other horror stories of transmission problems with these models.

Any one ever heard anything like this?

if the tranny is busted and needs replacing ... what the hell would flushing it do? (btw, never flush ... you'll wash up metal shavings back into your trans ... always drain 3 quarts and fill 3) your drive train is covered up to 100K if you did purchase the service plan, so take it to a certified honda repair place.

btw ... change the avatar.

Thanks!

When it first started to slip I brought it to the dealer. They said the fluid was dirty so I changed it...drained 3..filled 3 and did that 3 times over a short period of time.

Flushing the transmission was the first action to resolve the problem. If that proved insufficient then the trasmission would need to be replaced.

Funny how the two solutions are two extremes.

I didn't buy the $1200 service plan for my AV6. I have 123,200 miles (Pic at 123,456 )on her now and all she's costed me is $220 in extra maintenance when an EGR blew. They fixed an O2 sensor for free when it broke at only 40k. I drive the piss out of my car (see my 138MPH post), so it's not like it's been babied. I guess you just got an unlucky tranny. 1.8% of them go bad, says Honda and the NHTSA, so sorry about that. Good thing you got the service plan...for me it would've been a grand wasted

Hello, I am glad to find someone with the same problem I am having. I have a 1999 Honda Accord Ex with 58,000 miles on it and the trans slips all the time. I went to Honda and rasied hell only for them to tell me it would be 4,000 to replace it. I have called the Honda Corp also with no luck. If you hear anything let me know and I will do the same.

Thanks
William

Here is the link to the extended warranty Honda gives out to bad transmission.

http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/...warranty_x.htm

Do not let the dealers trick you into paying tons of money. Many dealers do not honor this warranty, but they have to. It is the law. If they do not honor it, they are breaking the contract with Honda USA.

can you check any possible recall on 02. i know there is a water pump recall, but the damn dealer keep saying my car isn't affected because of my vin number. how can they tell which accord out of millions 02 sold to be defected. dmv, dot, and alldata.com got report stating 02 waterpump is a recall, but dealership is singing another song. i am trying to find another dealership within 50 miles from the house. i have no luck.
