Here I am owning an 8500 and defending a V1.... really shows the respect they have (and deserve). The 8500 has a bunch of stuff I don't even use, nor did I really want (Safety Warning System, frequency display, volt meter, other useless nonsense). But nonetheless, it's a good detector at it's heart. It just isn't the absolute best, which is what a Valentine One is. The V1 is all detector, so no extra bull comes with it. And his website is very informative, eliminates rumors about all detectors, and even gives the up-to-date rules as to where they are legal and where they aren't. Simply put, if he won't deliver one to you, you live in a restricted area. V1's use a different material case than any other detector, which definitely adds to its cost (the only one to use die-cast magnesium..... the rest use plastic, plastic filters some frequencies and cuts down the range on others.) Jeeze, after sitting here talking about it, I almost want to place an order for one right now (in the process of buying a house, 400.00 goes to more important places)

From reading these "info" posts, I have even more respect for the V1 and want it even more. But i'm gonna be honest, I know i shouldnt buy one because i'll prolly end up speeding way too often and way too high and get in some kinda accident. So not having a V1 is kinda keeping me safe IMO. BUT if someone gave me one, i sure wouldnt deny it!!

Eventually i'll get one.

Question #1: That "privacy" attachment for the V1(the $40 one). How good is it? Is it needed? I assume if your in a state where detectors are illegal, its good cuz a cop can see the "lights" from the dash and pull you over. If you have that, well they cant see it. And if you get pulled over you just hide it right quick.

Question #2: If your in a state where detectors are illegal and you get pulled over for some odd reason and they decide to search your car. Can you get in trouble for "posessing" it? Of course if they ask you "do you have any type of radar/laser detector in the car?" you'll tell them the truth, but will you get in trouble? I'm kinda hoping there is a difference between "usage" and "posession"

Thanx guys!

dude i love it when someone wants to play with me or im playin with them. They coiuld be all pissed off and arrogant towards me and I'll still throw em a thumbs up. I remember once i went into the right lane to get aorund a GMC seirra and i seen him stomp the gas by all the blakc smoke out the exhaust so i went with him passed him, but didnt have enough to get over without cutting him off before the road ran out so i backed off and threw up a wave. fun as hell i tell you what man. these v6's are nice.

and i got this BEL radar dectector that like 4 years old and falling apart literally but its still saved my ass countless times

Okay Dave:

1) I have the concealed display and have it double face taped to the lower right hand side of the bottom of the center stack, right below the CD player. I use it at night because it's easier to see and people don't hang on my ass trying to look at it. Bastards.

2) radar detectors are only illegal in like 5 states...Off the top of my head, VA, DC, WI and a few others I think. Half the Canuck provinces have laws against them. If it's illegal in your state, the V1 cannot be detected by 'detector detectors' called VG-2's.

Listen Dave..I speed a lot and I feel that I am safer than 98% of the other drivers on the road. You know why? Because I am super-aware. When driving, I am listening to music/radio and continuously watching around me. Is this guy that I'm coming up on fast in the other lane starting to weave to the right? How many cars are behind me and is anyone coming up fast that might be Po-lice with no radar on? Is anyone hitting their brakes on up ahead because they spotted a cop? I am constantly scanning and learning. The dangerous people are the ones sitting in the left hand lane doing 75 and not paying attention.

Thanx for that post chris, I see what u mean by an "aware" driver. From all the accidents i got into with my first car, i am very very aware on the road. I'm constantly scanning my mirrors and noticing alot of movements on the road. So i guess i have improved since i started drving where i used to act like a fool on the road, i now hate people that act like i used to.

At night when traffic is light on a highway (impossible to do it when it is heavy) I'll actually count how many headlights I've passed (it really helps if a Xenon pair or two is mixed in) and keep track of them to see if a cop is coming up on my rear. I've never had it happen to me, but I've had it happen to friends...a cop runs right up to you without their radar on and estimates your speed. You're f'd then. I'm kind of pathetic :lmao:

good question! Are there certain cars that it cant "see" thorough correctly? I'm sure some cars' pillars get in the way! And if you have a big wing on ur car...it might interfeer with the radar :-) Ricers!!

Chris made a very good point...... there is no substitute for awareness when driving above speed limits. The people who cause accidents and get "paced" (cop tails you and estimates your speed for 1/4 mile) are the ones who don't continuously check their entire surroundings and the whole stretch of road ahead.
