Welcome to the board.
Well I know that "a lot of power" is relative, but to make a lot of power, you'll need a turbo. I think you are on the right track with grip. In my opinion that's where the best bang for the buck is on our cars, suspension and grip. You can spend a lot on the motor and still be slower than many stock new cars. Or you can spend money on suspension and tires and smoke 'em through the twisty roads...much more fun in my opinion anyway.
Here's a couple of mine, I do have a bodykit, but I like it because I think it's subtle enough it looks like it could be stock.
