just my 2 cents

97+ is also open deck configuration which can cause problems if you decide to build the motor up after it is in.

I own a 98 motor in my 5th gen which has been fully built for all motor duty and in doing so it had to be sleeved to prevent the walls from possible collapse due to machining. Also on the 97+ the auto tensioning system is crap and should be replaced either with the one out of the H23 which doesn't rely on hydraulics to operate or you can use a tensioner from an earlier model H22...I would suggest the conversion myself.

As for the OBDII and OBDI issue it really is a non issue overall as my engine was an OBDII engine but we converted it to OBDI which was actually quite simple in the overall scheme of things.

You know what I mean..

35K miles... => big Accident or something.. lol~~
The reason why when we buy JDM motors, they all have 35k miles or less because in Japan, you cannot drive around with a motor more than 35k miles on it. I think it's illegal or something. That's why they sell them to us...

that's some interestings facts. they have to get rid of them by 35k??? maybe since the population is growing so fast they want to keep the air as clean as possible and lessen the amount of cars?

Yeah Japan has the strictest emissions policies in the world.

After 35k miles a car either has to have the engine replaced or the car goes to the scrap yard.

Seems a waste but oh well makes for more parts for us

^ i don't think the whole 35K thing is totally accurate. there are people who have bought JDM front clips and some motors that include the guage cluster that clearly have over 35K.

35K is merely an estimate based on the fact that in japan they don't drive their cars alot, mostly for weekend use and not back-forth to work or school. it's also based on age/mileage of the car where it becomes too expensive in taxes from to own the vehicle. it becomes cheaper to either swap on a new motor or sell the car for scrap.

the japanese gov't supposedly does this for emissions and to keep the japanese auto industry booming. (the later part i was told by the owner of the honda dealer my dad knows. it came in convo when i was buying maintenance items for my JDM H22)

to put it simply i would not bet $50 on the fact that your motor will have 35k or less miles on it especially if it's a 92-96 H22.

I just ordered it yesterday. They said it was a 95 h22a1 with 62,*** kilometers. Close enough for me. They postponed my date for starting it till the 1st. Which is cool with me. I can just save up more for a clutch, timing belt, water pump?, plugs, wires. Looking at clutch masters stage 2 or 3, but I've heard good raves about exedy and ACT.

Get the ACT 6 puck with heavy duty pressure plate.

Its a solid setup for strip and easy to use on street.

what's the conversion factor for miles/kilometers? that sounds good though, did you ask how they knew? also they said H22a1 or is that a typo, cause H22a1 is USDM 93-96 and H22a is JDM.

stay away from clutchdisasters. i personally have ACT HD SS and like it alot. i think the 6 puck will be too much unless you plan on a alot of track driving and probably have clutch chatter. for most people who juts want a swap with bolt-ons ACT HD SS is fine.

They pass just fine as long as the entire emissions package equipment for the car is still in tact.....o2 sensors, cat, etc.
