When i accelarate fast for some reason my parking brake light comes on around 4500 RPMs and then goes off as soon as i switch gears. It only happens in 1st gear and i checked to see if maybe my knee was hitting the brake but it is not. And my car is a 2001 coupe with 5sp manual. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

i'm guessin you have a short in the parking brake wire that is making contact with the shift linkage when it is in first gear. the hard acceleration could be causing the wire to shift backward slightly...just enough to make contact with the metal linkage. the parking brake lights when it sees ground, which will be duplicated in a short circuit condition.

if you aren't under warranty anymore, take the console out and look for exposed metal along the parking brake wire near the shift linkage. if you are under warranty, hand the keys to the dealer and say "fix this"
