pros/cons of 6cyl /4cyl
I'm about ready to purchase a new 03 Accord. I would like your opinion on which engine to get. A friend says to get the 4 banger since he knows I drive the wheels off my cars and he says the 6 would last longer. I'm leaning toward the 6 though.
Pros and cons of each engine would be appreciated.
Thanks.

4 Cylinders are faster No, really I am just saying that because I have 4 banger. Mine is really fast and I can beat the 6 shooters easily, but it is all in opinion.
And, 4 bangers usually are built well and run extremely well for long periods of time, I am not to familiar with 6 'ers that much but I bet the hold up just as well.

4 banger vs 6 pros:
Better Mileage.
Typically higher revving.
You may not miss the power of the six because the K24 (the 4cyl) is sooo good.
5spd manual available for sedan or coupe.
Cheaper to get.
Cons of Above:
Less power.
Not the top of the line/ worse residuals.
No 6speed.
Pros of the 6
Great power w/o needing premium gas.
6spd coupe.
Better wheels.
Comptech may have an s/c in the works.
Cons of the 6
Thirsty for gas.
6psd coupe only.

I have read that the 4 is almost, if not as fast as the 6 because of the added weight of the 6. Any truth to this, or did Honda get it figured out after the first couple of years? This is all heresay, so can somebody who has driven both contribute to this?

I bought a 03 coupe in january 4cyl. ex no leather and had it about 3 weeks and took it back and bought 03 coupe ex V6 w/navi, so I know them both. The one thing I noticed is the handeling in the 4cyl is more crisp. When I mentioned this to the dealer there reasoning was the added weight to the front on the V6 damped the steering. Its not a big deal but you will definitely notice the difference. Now both of my vehicle were automatics (tired of driving stick) I would tell you this if you go with the 4cyl you have to get a manuel tranny. Because I noticed a huge power difference in V6 from 4cyl when they are mated with auto transmissions. But with either choice I am sure you will be happy. But seeing as I'm a Vsixer I would tell you get the v6 and if possible definitely get the NAVIGATION system, the toys that comes with that unit is AWESOME.

the '98-02 V6 AUTOs were faster than any I-4s built previous, but not by much. the 5spd I-4 is quicker on the launch but after 30mph the V6 takes over.
as for the '03 Accord, there is no way a 160hp DOHC I-4 can compete against a 240hp SOHC V6, AUTO or stick

V6 were made for the "I want a v6" american market. Its a marketing stratedy to lure in buyers who want a car equipped with a v6 that can compete with the other v6 cars out there. Its pretty much for the old, luxury type people due to its options of navi, leather, etc...
The i4 is equipped with the k series motor. The k series can also be found in the tsx, rsx, and civic si which are known to be the sporty version cars. There will be a much larger aftermarket available for the i4 motor.
It all comes down to what youre looking for in a car. If you want luxury with power go for the v6. If you want a car with plenty of aftermarket support and potential go for the i4. But no matter what get a manual because I said so.
