I have a 90 accord now. Few problems with this one since i've owned it. Speedometer works erratically. Meaning sometimes the needle will pop up and work for a few seconds but then it dies again. When the speedometer doesn't work, the odometer does not track the mileage.

Also, this car still has the factory radio. And the speakers look alright in good condition. Yet when i turn the radio on and try all stations, FM, AM, and cassette, the radio seems to function fine however absolutely no sound out of any of the speakers. Any ideas what could be wrong? radio unit? wiring?

Also, i have to add a quart of oil to this thing every week. It doesn't appear to be leaking oil on my driveway at all. And the exhaust is not smokey. Where the hell is the oil going? haha

Also, the idle seems to bounce a bit. The idle will hum up to about the 1k mark then fall again. Had a similar problem with an acura a few years ago.

Any suggestions on how to solve or diagnose a few of these problems would be greatly appreciated.

 

took a look underneath. Looks like a lot of fresh oil residue around my oil pan. Maybe the oil pan gasket is going bad. must leak when i'm driving and not when the car is sitting. no obvious stains on my driveway where i always park it.

Also, seems other people who have had speedometer/odometer problems point at the VSS / speed sensor. Which appears to only be a $20 / 1 hour fix. However I do not see any "S" light or "sports" light that people mention flashing or where it could even flash anywhere on my dash. Also, my speedometer still works intermittently. So what do you think? VSS still a possibility?

Still have no idea why my radio would work but not any of the speakers.

 

Another question. If i were to conclude that it is the VSS that needs to be replaced to get my speedometer/odometer/ and cruise control to work again, would i need this:
