Default Headlight reflector question

I have a '99 accord ex with 9006 low beams. I recently replaced them with Sylvannia Silverstars. They lasted about 6 months and then both died within a week of each other. I convinced Autozone that they should give me two more for free, plus another one for free as a spare. After putting them in, I noticed that the right side looks more yellow then the left. I took the spare and put that one in and got the same results. After looking closely, I found that there is what looks like a smudge or discoloration on the reflector. Now there is no way I could have put that there because I can't even stick anything in there to wipe it. Has anyone seen this before? Also, to get to the reflector, would I have to bake my headlights?

Thanks for the help!

This is odd. I have never heard of Silverstars blowing nearly that quickly. Because of this, my theory is that you have at least one defective headlight housing, which caused that smudge, and the bulb to blow, OR you got a batch of bad Silverstars, which may have caused the smudge.

Supposidly Xenon/Halogen bulbs are supposed to last longer than normal Halogen bulbs, i.e. stock ones. Up to 75% longer... Which is forever lol, and Sylvania is a good manufacturer too.

But why would you ever buy a 9006 bulb these days anyways? 9005 Conversion rules!

Maybe he touched the bulb and the oil from his hands caused this? :dunno:

Very possible, that oil burning off could have caused the smudge too! Good job AccordCutie... thats my guess now.

I am 100% positive that I did not touch the bulb, even with the latex gloves that I was wearing. I have replaced 3000w Osram mercury lamps at my job and have a lot of experience with them. Since Sylvannia is owned by Osram, I figured I couldn't go wrong at $25.00 a piece. Anyways, the smudge is on the reflector housing, not the bulb.
