Default 1995 Accord EX 4-cyl 4-door D4 light flashing?

Sorry if this is an already covered topic here on the forum. I tried to run a search on the subject but the search doesn't return anything remotely matching my search criteria...

Anyway, the D4 light started flashing when I pulled into my driveway this evening. It appears to be flashing at a steady pace. I know this is tied to the tranny; but can anyone give me some specifics as to what it could be? I have read everything from it being the speed sensor to the TCU.

I did put in a rebuilt tranny about a year and a half ago or so. The car was driving fine on the way home.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE 01/22/2010: I noticed that the D4 flashing is intermittent which means that it is not happening every time I drive the car. I also noticed last night at a couple of points that the speedo stops working but then it starts again.

UPDATED 02/01/2010: The speedo, odometer, and tripmeter have all stopped working now and the D4 light starts flashing just after the car has been running for a couple of minutes. The check engine light may or may not come on.

Default VSS issue

I noticed your post was going unanswered and I also remember seeing this on other Honda sites. They all point toward the VSS ( I don't even know what that is).

The symptoms of this part going also effect the dash like you mentioned.

Try searching in google "VSS D4 flashing honda accord" lots of hits. Good luck.
