Default Doing My JDM Healights This Weekend!

I'm going to attempt to do the Black Headlight housings this weekend and was just wondering a few things really quick. I'm going to use a blow dryer and a screw driver to get them apart... will this work? Next, Flat black or Glossy black paint? And lastly, will just masking tape work to mask off the parts that I don't want painted?

Also, I was just wondering if these would work well on my car with the JDM headlights...?

or...

or... Can I just mod my stocks? If so how... I hear they are harder to get apart than The Headlights...

Thanks,
John

i don't think using only a blowdryer will do the trick man. a heat gun will work wayyy better. if not the oven.

the real jdm lights are flat black..so u might wanna do flat, and ya..masking tape will be jus fine...jus don't get a masking tape that's really strong..or it's gonna take some chrome off.

also..go with the jdm style corners....the black euros are too dark for me. not to mention the light won't even be functional anymore

well from experience when i blacked out my headlights a few weeks ago, i tried to take apart the the corners and ended up cracking them. i would just buy the jdm style ones off ebay, thats what im doing. obtw make sure you have plenty of time. it took me about 5-6 hours. nah the hairdryer won't work. just put them in an oven at about 250 for 5-7 minutes and take them out, pry them apart with a butter knife a little, then put them back in for another 2 minutes then take them back out and pry them the rest of the way. and be really careful some parts of the headlight are delicate. and then just tape what you don't want to paint with masking tape, and make sure you lean them forward when drying them so it won't run onto the reflector. make sure the tape is on there good too. i used some BBQ grill paint i bought at advanced auto parts for like 3.00 its flat black i think. it works good takes temps up to 1200 degrees. when you are done make sure you push them back together and then put them in the oven for about 4 minutes and then take them out and push them together the rest of the way and hold them like that for about a minute and then put the little metal clips back on. thats how i did it and so far no condensation (knock on wood). hope that helps.

Should I put some form of glue/caulk on them before putting them back together? If so, what type?

you dont have to..... theres plenty of silicon stuff on the housings already, so when you want to re seal them, just push them together as much as you can, then stick them back in the over for a few minutes, then put on the clamps.

if you want silicone sealant (it is good to have around anyway), it is like $2.99 at WalMart. Very useful stuff IMO.

Can I do this without taking off my bumper? If I DO have to take off my bumper where can I learn how?

TIA,
John

You have to take off the bumper. its a pain in the ass if you dont know where all the screws/bolts are at. AUX might be able to give you a diagram on how to do this. or do a search.
