Default Some questions about stock intake

Im going to buy a K&N drop in filter for my stock intake and replace my weapon r dragon intake(from my rice days 1.5-2 years ago). i want to gain some of my low end torque that i lost when the short ram was just sucking in warm air.

anyways, i kind of forgot some of the parts of the stock intake so i need your guys help.

ok in pic#1, what is the black box under the intake pipe and what exactly does it do? do i need it? also, it looks like a vacuum line was connected to the black box, can i just cap off that hole?

pic#2just a closer pic, u can see the vacuum hole im talking about towards the top

pic#3, it looks like there were also two vacuum lines on the intake pipe itself. where does the vacuum line on the left connect to and where does the right one connect to?

thanks for your help in advance

i think you'd better off putting time into making a heat a sheild or buying one and pipe in some cool air with some dryer hose.
