Default Anyone have '03 with navigation?

Test drove sales mgr car and he has tinted the windows. He mentioned that it has caused the navigation system to be off. Said the antenna is located under the rear shelf and the tint is causing this. Does anyone know if in fact window tint could cause a problem. I want nav but I also want to tint my windows.

well i know window tint has an affect on your radios signal when you tint the back window, so it would make sense if the navi was affected as well. but i dunno how much. Shouldnt be that big of a deal??

It is a big deal. My friend had the XM antenna installed on the rear shelf and his reception went to $hit. He then moved it back outside where it belongs. It's due to the tints, because he never had the problem when he wasn't tinted.

Well my solution to this would be to relocate the antenna to a more convienent place. This may require some customizing such as wiring and brackets, but it could probably fit somewhere close to the sunroof, as long as you do not have it tinted where it would get decent reception. This is just a theory though. I have no idea how the nav antenna works so i am not really too sure.

Just get an antenna like the CL/TL/RL has (the 'Volkswagen' style one on the roof), then wire the Navi and/or XM into it.

I have a TL-S tinted with metallic tints and the Navi. Personally I have never had problems with my Navi acting up, but other TL people I know who had metallic tints did have trouble. The antenna is imbedded in the rear glass, and some members with metallic tints noticed interference from the metal with the anteanna.

Tints with no metallic content should work just fine, so just make sure to tell the installer.

Oh yeah the 03 TL-S with navi roof antenna is for the Onstar service, not the Navi, so I am not sure how compatible they are.
