Default If I start from d3......

will I get a better launch as uppossed to starting from d4? I have read the thread about shifting autos and have no desire to do this but I was just wondering

no, you may think you get a better launch but you won't, automatics are too smart for that. you're better off just flooring it in d4

you will not get a better launch, but you will go not go into fourth and will be able to redline 3rd gear. Therefore there is an advantage.

So if your drag racing put it in D3 and don't shift until redline.

why wouldnt you be able to redline third gear if you keep the pedal floored?

well if I were to shift from redline wouldn't that do some substantial damage or at least "wear and tear" on my tranny?

not much harm cuz when you stomp on it in d4, it shifts right at redline or a little before it anyways. if you want a better launch in an auto just brake torque to about 2k rpm in d3 and mash the gas and and shift it at redline. that how i launch when im on the bottle . tire spin is still pretty bad even tho im rolling already but its not as bad as if i just stomp and spray.

hehe, maybe your tire spin isnt as bad cuz you're going slower when you start in D3...

Having floored my automatic on two separate occasions in D4 on my way to 130 mph, the car doesn't shift at redline when going from 3rd to 4th.....its just the way it is....nothing is wrong with my auto. It's still pretty smooth and it is pretty damn willing to please cuz it will downshift two gears at a time when I want it to do so. It just won't redline 3rd. 1 and 2 are fine however.

oh my...not this thread again

ok....redlining a gear does not always give you an advantage. Most peak hp output is about 1k below redline according to dyno charts. So i dont see how redlining the engine helps as much, other than putting more wear on it.

Also....evertime i floor from 0...it redlines on 1,2, and 3 if i remember correctly. Driving in d3 is basically stupid, when your tranny should be shifting into 4th, it cant, and its spinning your engine an unnecessary number of rpms(i know u didnt ask about driving in d3, just adding that).

And for the last comment, dont race your accord unless your racing on track. Its not worth the risk, even on a so called loser term "unused road/closed road" or any other excuse to race. I learned my lesson about street racing, just dont do it "Track, NOT Streets!!" like it says under my name. Be Safe!
