You guys are going about it all the wrong ways. If you really want your automatic tranny to work like you want it you need to reaserch a shift kit that will do what you want it to. You guys are all just making asses of yourselves trying to manually shift an auto thinking it's giving you more power

Also....evertime i floor from 0...it redlines on 1,2, and 3 if i remember correctly. Driving in d3 is basically stupid, when your tranny should be shifting into 4th, it cant, and its spinning your engine an unnecessary number of rpms(i know u didnt ask about driving in d3, just adding that).

Dave
Depends on the accord, mine is a 2k1 v6 and with the pedal buried if I have it in d4 it will shift way too early and put 4th at about 3500-3600rpms, which is NOT in vtec land which bogs the car down and makes it pretty pathetic(more so than normal), it takes forever and a day for it to reach the magic 3800 and get my ass moving again. If I hold it in d3 until right before it's getting ready to bounce off the rev limiter, then knock it to d4 it shifts to about 3900 or so and I keep on going. I played with one of my friends and his celica GTS, he's a very consistant driver and with the car in d4 right before shifting he's about a car and half behind me fading back, with the premature shift all of a sudden he blows by me like I'm standing still, and by the time I get to 120 he's 5+ cars ahead. If I hold it in D3 right until it's ready to nail the rev limiter, then kick it to d4, he still catches me, but not until about 130, and he slowly passes me. we tried it a few times and a few different ways from 55(which is a sweet spot for 2nd in my car and a good reason I pull away from him) and it was very repeatable, d4 I got my ass handed to me at about 110-115, d3 then a kick to d4 he caught me at 130, then slowly crept by.

ok....redlining a gear does not always give you an advantage. Most peak hp output is about 1k below redline according to dyno charts. So i dont see how redlining the engine helps as much, other than putting more wear on it.

And for the last comment, dont race your accord unless your racing on track. Its not worth the risk, even on a so called loser term "unused road/closed road" or any other excuse to race. I learned my lesson about street racing, just dont do it "Track, NOT Streets!!" like it says under my name. Be Safe!

Dave

Here's why redlining is generally to your advantage on a honda: When you manually shift or the auto shifts at redline you may be past your power peak (slightly), but in the next gear you will be higher up in the rev/power band and won't lose as much momentum in between shifts.

I don't street race either. Like I said i've only done it twice in the accord, 125 in a turbo Saab and bunch of corollas at about 100 and it was cruising much like on an autobahn (considered fairly safe) on my own with nobody to compete against (and I do it very rarely), but if you've redlined in third gear then you, yourself, were well above the legal limit (90+mph).

I am not a street racer. The reason why I started this thread is because I have an interest in trying to race my car at the track, and am just trying to get the most out of my auto 5gen. I am slowly but surely starting to put mods on my car and just trying to get the "best" performance I can get.(I just got my 5gen recently)

at the track I'd be willing to bet leaving it in d3 or d4 wouldn't matter unless you're trapping 110mph+, if you start getting towards the weak shift spot(115ish) then d3 might do some good.

the rev limiter will kill the fuel & bog the engine if you try to even get near redline if you try to manually shift the AUTO. the tranny is electronic, you can't defeat it - leave it in D3 if at a track or D4 if roll racing.

Yes...it is different with a 5 speed auto and a different engine. I can just go by my lx I4 right now. No vtec obviously.

Ok, i understand your redline explanation, i didnt think of that, very helpful information.

And about 90+, yes, i have speeded before and i still somewhat speed when the conditions are right. Going 90 miles an hour temporarily while being fully aware is a pretty safe risk(if there is such a thing). I usually stay at 75-80 in a 65.

these threads are so idiotic. People talking about drag racing their auto accords. "Hey man how do I shave .00001 seconds off my auto 1/4 mile"
