Default cv joints?!

I am hearing a knocking sound when I turn slightly, now from reading previous threads it sounds like its my cv joints. I have been riding around with this " knocking sound for about 2 weeks now. I have every intention on getting this fixed but don't know how soon. I guess my question(s) are how long can I ride like this, has anyone else had this problem, and if I can't find someone to help me do this, how much should it cost for a shop to do it? Thanks for the input:thumbup:

I would jack the car up and take a look at them to see the extent of the damage if there is any. Decide after that.

To have the axle changed is a bit of work and kinda expensive, but if u just need to repack ur cv boot its about 40 for the in side and a bit more for the out side. Sometimes even if ur boot is ripped or leaking grease when repack it it makes the axle stop knocking. But that’s just my experience. If your cv boots are ripped or leaking get it repacked fast or else it will lead to changing the axle.

I have the same thing but without the noise. I live in the seattle area and I got quotes between about $350 - $500 for both the front axles. I have a 1990 accord and I dont know if it is more difficult to do on later models or not.

well how do I know if its just the cv boot? I'm sure if I take it to a shop they'll end up telling me its the axle instead of the cv boot, or both. So how can I check for myself wether or not its the cv boot or the axle?

Check your CV boot... if it is cracked, or not there, etc., then you have to replace the whole axle. You can further confirm this by looking inside of the boot... if it is cracked, etc... and if there is dirt/grime in there then your axle is ****ed, almost immediately. If your CV boot is just dry-rotted, but still in tact, then only the CV boot needs to be replaced as preventative maintenance. If you hear clicking then your whole axle needs to be replaced 99.99% of the time.
