Default Accord Air Conditioning A/C troublshooting

does anyone know of a good site that goes thorugh troubleshooting the A/C systems in general or specific to the Accord? I have not tried to look into mine yet, but I know that the compressor doesn't even cycle on. I read that is because of insufficient system pressure.
I don't want to jump in and charge system if it really needs certain parts to be replaced. 96 accord EX.

It would also be good to know what has to be done at an A/C shop and how much it should cost. For example, can you evacuuate the system yourself, or if you have to take it to a shop what is a reasonable price to pay?

If the compressor doesn't turn on, you should make sure that the compressor relay is providing power when you turn on the A/C. Just unplug the electrical connector to the compressor and check that you have 12V from that plug to ground when you turn on the A/C from inside the car. There should only be one wire going to the plug in the compressor.

I wouldn't add freon to the system unless you hook up and A/C gauge and measure the high and low side pressure. Overcharging the system can destroy the compressor and cause something to explode due to high pressures in the A/C system. Diagnose the electrical side of things first.
