Default New Struts, Help!

Hello, my woman needs new struts on her `97 2.2 CL (accord coupe) I was wondring what you guys have been using, the car will be lowered about 2-3 inches at the same time so we want a strut that is made for lowered vehicles, I was looking at the KYB GR2's but they dont say anthing about being for lowered vehicles, the price range is $200-$250 for all 4 (is this possible??)...

Thanks in advance...

at that price u won't get any good struts for that kinda lowering. the best u might be able to do is KYB AGXs and thats really pushing the price range.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter which struts you use. The struts are completely independent of the springs and it's the springs that control your ride height.

 thats what you think, the spring mounts to the strut, making them pretty much one piece. They are far from independent. The spring is what makes the ride height different, but the struts DO matter. I have the KYB GR2's, I ran a 2.5" drop for about 4 months (roughly 8kmi) without any problems, now I have a 1.5" drop will still no problems. The GR2 is a very overlooked strut, just because its not adjustable dosent mean it cant be used for a drop. If you want to save some $$ and adjustability is not an issue, they are perfect! I have no complaints. I also put a set of these on my mothers 3.0 CL because it needed new struts, its on the stock springs and there was a pretty big difference in the ride quality. Its a little stiffer now with the GR2's, being the 3.0 is a little heavy, it used to ride more like a larger car, kinda bouncy, but its all gone now, rides much more like a 4 cyl car.

Go with the GR2's!! BTW, the 2.2 CL and accord coupe are really different.

Thanks for the help, I had a guy in the CL board say something about the KYB's not being a very reilable brand, but who believes everything they hear? I knew I didnt just want to get some replacements from Idiot-Zone because I tried this on my ex-car (`90 prelude) wow it rode good being lowered 3" and new struts for about 3 months, then they were worn out, but I'd sold the car by then and didnt care. Thanks for the help!

Koni yellows are the best you can get, but you will pay a lot for them. Whoever said shocks didn't matter don't understand what they are talking about. People that ghetto lower their car (i.e.-2 inch drop on stock shocks) don't really care about performance, they are only going for the "look" . Its funny, everytime I see a car dropped that much they usually don't have aftermarket shocks, and you can see the car bouncing all over the road, it's very noticable if you look. I have tokico illuminas and they are great, got them for about 440 shipped, which isn't too bad. Of course I'm only lowered 1.25 inches, but they really make for a nice ride, and having the option to adjust them is nice, although I don't do it often. Stock shocks are made to please the people who usually drive accords (elderly people!), they are meant for a nice cushy ride, not to be dropped 2 inches or more.

I would suggest the GR2s if you are on a tight budget. They are a great strut for the money. BUT, I would not mate them to a 3" drop. They are only warrantied to 1.5". I would go 2" max.

I really like my adjustable KYB-AGX but they are only on a 1.5" Eibach prokit drop. You can find AGXs on ebay for less than $300.

BTW- Struts are very important. If you ride in a car with a 3" drop on OEM quality struts be sure to wear a helmet cause your head will be hitting the roof with every crack in the road!
