I've got a queation for you guys. I've heard that the new Accord has gone to 10K intervals for oil changes as the factory recommendation from Honda. Anyone out there have a new Accord? What does Honda recommend for oil change intervals? What is different about the new engine or about the oil that they are using in the engine that allows them to extend the oil change interval out that far? It seems a little too far to me. Anybody know any of the details about this??

 

i know on my 94 accord the recommended oil changes were every 7500 miles

 

i also read somewhere that the interval was raised...i dunno if its true or not though

 

I'm thinking of replacing my 2000 Prelude with an Accord 6 speed coupe maybe next year, so I want to get as much information as possible before I decide. My 'Lude has almost 58K already, but It will be paid off by this coming Feburary. Anyone have any more definative informatioin???

 

It's a legitimate question, but hell, I wouldn't let the oil change interval a factor of whether you buy the car or not. 7500 between changes is the longest period of any car I've owned...that's pretty low maintenence.

 

Some cars require less frequent oil changes because they are ULEV's or SULEV's. They just run really clean, so there is less dirt and crap to collect in the oil...

The OM states that the oil change interval under normal driving conditions is 10,000 for 4cyl and 7,500 for 6cyl.

 

I think they say something like 7k or 10k for the new civic. So asked the parts manager when I was buying some of that 5w-20 oil and he said why??? Oil is rather cheap, why risk changing oil at that mileage. Besides I believe that 7k and 10k change intervals are under normal conditions. Under severe conditions it's much lower, which what most of us drive anyway. Since we generally drive hard, you can throw all that stuff out the window and should just change your oil every 3k.

 

yup, thats right. check ur maintence books. the 6th gen accords r fairly high. however, under extreme circumstances, which include rush hour traffic and frequent city miles, it is recommended at change the oil every 3,000 miles.
