i Want cut shifter to make it shorter

Aight i got a accord 00 (automatic wit Overdrive) and i want to cut the shifter bar just a lil bit to make it shorter if i do this will this effect the Overdrive?

1. there is no overdrive button on the shifter.
2. why? So you can make your "P" to "D" "throw" faster?
