only on the transmission did Honda mess up. other than that i love my 6th gen.
of course i did opt for a manual transmission swap for way less than 4K.
if you love your car and can find a good price. swap for manual.
if not, i agree. sell the car and move on.

i did my auto to manual swap when it was at 75xxx miles
cost me about 2000 dollars
excluding a performance flywheel and clutch
i threw in another 500 down the road for new axles and misc. things that i wanted new
about 1-2 weeks downtime for everything to be done meticulously
i knew the mechanic and he knew me so he took his time.
cars been running sweet for 6 months more or les

Default 6th Generation Automatics

Folks,

I have a 98 Accord with 100K miles (2.3 L eng/Auto) and had a 00 Accord with 88K miles (V6/Auto) - and both automatics shift as well now as they did upon purchase when new. Aren't you get a little spun up on a certain percentage (probably very low) of transmission problems?

I drove around this evening a bit more. First 7-10 minutes (only on 1st/2nd) after that as if nothing wrong (even for 1st/2nd). No problem in other ones.

I would be seriously thinking about the manual swap. I found a place http://tampa.craigslist.org/aos/523959704.html. They claim to do it $1K with warranty of 1yr/12K. I guess I have to shop like crazy.

Yes, people exaggerate GREATLY the frequency of failure. A high percentage of failed transmissions were either abused, driven all city miles, or never maintained properly. The people you see on message boards are those who have had their tranny fail and are looking for help, not those who have no problems.

My old 98 Accord V6 went 150k miles on its original tranny and was at 120k on its replacement when i traded it in. There was a time not much longer than a few years ago when even 100k miles out of an automatic transmission was considered excellent...

The far smarter thing to do would be to trade it in and hope the dealer doesn't notice it.

my o1 accord had a problem at around 60000miles. nothing major went to the dealership explained the problem. he told me that it was tranny related and that they were willing to replace it. of coarse i took them uip on that and had it installed for free. the employee explained that this is common with our model. he said it was covered. i said honda always made good cars what happened? he said that honda contracts out on these transmissions. they only make the engines. that sucks for honda. im up to 77000 and the new ones running fine.
